Scene: Jawhinge – Wrong About Me

"Fun fact, I did not come up with the main melody - the Tracker did. A little modified euclidean fill was the basis of it."

“The Tracker is the main workhorse of this whole project. It handles chopped breaks, synths via slightly detuned single cycle waveforms and midi outs to a Behringer Neutron playing the lead melody and a Behringer MS-1 playing bass. There are two layers of bass – one harmonized and sampled and a more abrasive, less low-frequency over it that is played live. In the video I mainly fiddle with it, tweaking the filter as the track goes.

Both synths are run through a TC Electronic Mini HOF with a hall reverb setting through my mixer’s FX sends. The break chopping technique I used is rather rudimentary, heavily utilizing the slice FX parameter over several time-stretched breaks (time stretching worked out wonderfully). There are two MIDI tracks where my synths (melody and upper raspy bass layer) are and anyone who wants to try out the project is more than welcome to patch in their gear as they please or use the Tracker’s synthesis engines :)

This whole track came to be as a sort of tribute to the slower, oppressive loud breaks that got me hooked on the genre in the first place.”

Jawhinge

Is a project of George Durankiev that mainly revolves around its author having fun while exploring his favorite technologies and concepts, tying them together around his own wonky human experience. Albeit lacking in theatrics and pomp, Jawhinge heavily employs the what-you-see-is-what-you-get method of not making music production a chore and goes to bed smiling when he sees someone enjoy his output. He’s currently working on his third album that mainly consists of all the aggressive, complex music he was previously incapable of making, expected to be out in Fall 2021.
