Scene: Jakub Steiner – Perpetual Jam

Here's a new video from Jakub Steiner, a visual designer from the Czech Republic who likes to venture into electronic music on occasion.

“I’ve taken a long hiatus from music and focused solely on visuals in the past two decades. But then I ran into Polyend Tracker and made the impulse purchase solely based on high levels of nostalgia. The machine immediately won me over with attention to detail and I’m happy to say it stands on its own as a music instrument. That nostalgia trip only lasted a day. It enables a great creative workflow regardless of whether you intend to use it as a single DAW-less machine, or use it to kick off the founding patterns of your arrangement.”

Track Breakdown & Download

“I foolishly wanted to re-enter the same river twice as they say. I’ve learned how easy it is to chop up breaks with my older track where I, however, spent a considerable amount of time on the computer. I wanted to remain solely in the tracker for this one. The breaks were kindly provided by Polyend and Stazma – I don’t shy away from the convenience.

I’ve also made use of the great bandpass filter on the breaks to make the kick carry some weight when you finally hear it.

The fast breaks contrast nicely with the warm deformed synth samples taken from the amazing BlankForm’s Tape Haze 4. For this track, I also leaned into the arpeggiator step fx. You get a taste of it right at the start and then we return to a faster-paced version of it early on.”
